Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Injures Four People Injured in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood
Sacramento authorities are probing a shooting incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at Howe Park while Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dissolving an unsanctioned gathering of a crowd of several hundred.
Background
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office initially responded to the Arden-Arcade park at approximately 6:30 PM after getting calls of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Soon after, additional information came in about an alleged brawl breaking out near the park.
An overhead unit flew over the park but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, it was apparent that check here several hundred individuals had come together at the location without permission.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Law enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and announcing over their public address systems directing those gathered to vacate the area. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for the crowd to leave.
It was during this dispersal that upwards of 20 gunshots echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Officers immediately began searching for victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
Altogether, four shooting victims were found to have been shot. Those injured — consisting of one woman and three men each reported to be in their 20s — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Doctors and nurses confirmed that two victims were in serious condition, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.
Sacramento fire crews were called to the scene and provided medical assistance shooting victims at the park.
Crime Scene Evidence
The center of the incident seemed to have unfolded adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor near the local Home Depot on the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators found additional spent rounds along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that a second shooter had been firing southward from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was locked down for a period of time. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives worked tirelessly for hours.
Suspects Detained
Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a Kia was contacted by law enforcement in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to bring the suspects back for processing in Sacramento County. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
